Grade 9 3D Design Project

Upcycling/ Repurposing

Problem: Items that we use everyday for one purpose are thrown out. What if those items can be reused, repurposed or upcycled? You must show how an everyday item that is ususally thrown away (pop bottles, cans, toilet paper rolls, ice cream pails, oil pails, books, lotion/shampoo bottles, etc.) can be transformed to have another functional use.

To complete this project, you must:

• Choose an item to upcycle (look at the list above or look at the items around you house).
• Find 10 different ways to upcycle/ recycle that item or other items into functional items you can use in your house/ life. List these 10 ideas, along with a picture and brief description, on a word document and hand it into Ms.Orban (Assignment #1).
• Choose at least 3 of these ideas. If it is a pre-made project, what are the steps to completing the task?
• Create an proposal for your 3 repurposing plans (briefly describe). You must answer: What is the project? What are the steps to making the project? What different materials will you need and what space will it need to be done in?
• Have Ms Orban approve your plans
• Now you must make those projects. Remember to follow it step by step. It is up to you to find your materials or ask for them.
• The class will present their projects on June _______________.
